Broken English
Directors: Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard
From the BAFTA nominated directors of the Sundance award winning
20,000 Days on Earth comes Broken English — a bold new hybrid
documentary about the inimitable singer, songwriter and icon —
Marianne Faithfull.
A survivor, provocateur, and true original, Marianne spent the
last six decades defying expectations, releasing over 35 albums
while constantly reinventing herself. In this intimate and
unflinching portrait, made with her co-operation and
participation, she confronts the many versions of herself shaped
by fame, creativity and relentless public scrutiny.
Set within 'The Ministry of Not Forgetting' — an
imagined, cinematic institution — the film blends memory and
mythology. The cast, led by Tilda Swinton and George MacKay, delve
into Marianne's life story and legacy. Featuring powerful
performances from her friends and collaborators including Nick
Cave & Warren Ellis, Beth Orton, Courtney Love, Suki Waterhouse
and Jehnny Beth.
Broken English is a genre-defying portrait of resilience and
rebellion. A final, fearless declaration — Marianne
Faithfull's defiant swan song.
